Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift oncology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience and telemetry skills.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit within a cancer hospital setting
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Patient ratios goal of 1:4, may be 1:5
• Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
• No set or blocked scheduling offered
• Floating required to other Med/Surg Oncology units
• Cares for adult and geriatric patients with solid tumor cancers across all stages including new diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life transition
• Common diagnoses include breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers, and antineoplastic chemotherapy encounters
• Epic EMR used

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• 2 years of acute care experience required, current within the last 12 months and in the specialty applied for
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Telemetry interpretation and monitoring skills required
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access/management, central line blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
• Cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management skills required
• Isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required
• Tracheostomy care/management skills preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership role; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

• Provide direct care for med/surg oncology patients across the full cancer care continuum
• First-time travelers considered, willingness to learn and grow nursing practice encouraged
• Previous travel experience preferred but not required
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6 months away from the facility
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible to work as a traveler at any location within the system
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed promptly after contract signing due to strict compliance timelines
