The Medical Assistant will assist providers in the management and treatment of customers. Customers come from a variety of backgrounds and various age groups requiring individualized care. The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive and delegated tasks as described in the scope of practice. Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the role of the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider. These tasks are described by the Board of Nursing and the Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant receives direction and collaborates with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers. The goal is to meet the defined objectives of the customers, shifts, department, and organization. Communication with the healthcare team regarding progress, concerns, questions, or problems is essential. The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and clerical tasks to assist with the management of customer flow. Tasks include standard rooming processes, giving immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by the provider. Laboratory specimen collection may be performed as needed. Dependent upon the specialty and clinic location, the Medical Assistant may provide telephone support. The Medical Assistant may facilitate communication between customers and providers. Assistance with prescription refills may also be part of the role. Performing x-ray duties may be assigned if the individual has passed the x-ray operator exam. The Medical Assistant may perform phlebotomy duties and clinic laboratory tests. Front desk/check-in support, ordering and stocking supplies, and assistance with prior authorizations may be included in the duties. The Medical Assistant will ensure a supportive and efficient environment for both customers and providers.
