Description:
The Medical Assistant will manage the customer flow throughout the clinic.
The role involves assisting providers in the management and treatment of customers.
Customers come from a variety of backgrounds and various age groups, requiring individualized care.
Care includes infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks.
Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the role of the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider.
Tasks are described by the state Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Practice.
The Medical Assistant receives direction and collaborates with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers.
Communication with the health care team regarding progress, concerns, questions, or problems is essential.
The role includes performing clinical and clerical tasks to assist with customer management.
Tasks include standard rooming processes, giving immunizations, injections, and medications as directed.
Laboratory specimen collection may be performed as needed.
Dependent upon the specialty and clinic location, the Medical Assistant also may provide telephone support, facilitate communication between customers and providers, assist with prescription refills, perform x-ray duties, perform phlebotomy duties, conduct clinic laboratory tests, provide front desk/check-in support, order and stock supplies, and assist with prior authorizations.
