Job Title: Medical Assistant Profession: Certified Medical Assistant Specialty: Family Medicine Duration: Permanent Position Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 Hours (Varying Between 7 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday) Experience: Previous experience in a clinical setting License: Current BLS Certification Certifications: BLS Must-Have: High School graduate or equivalent (i.e., GED) Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by a recognized accrediting organization or Graduate of a Registered Medical Assistant program accredited by a national health services organization with on-the-job experience and passing the RMA Certification exam Description: The Medical Assistant will manage customer flow throughout the clinic. The Medical Assistant will assist providers in the management and treatment of customers. Customers come from a variety of backgrounds and age groups requiring individualized care, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, or geriatrics. The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks as described in the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the role of the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider. These tasks are described by the relevant Boards of Nursing and Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant receives direction and collaborates with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to meet defined goals. Communication with the healthcare team regarding progress, concerns, questions, or problems is essential. The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and clerical tasks to assist with customer management in the clinic. Tasks include standard rooming processes, administering immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by the provider. Laboratory specimen collection may be performed as needed. Dependent upon the specialty and clinic location, the Medical Assistant may also provide telephone support. Facilitating communication between customers and providers is also a responsibility. Assistance with prescription refills, performing assigned x-ray duties if qualified, and conducting phlebotomy duties are required. The Medical Assistant may also perform clinic laboratory tests. Front desk and check-in support, ordering and stocking supplies, and assistance with prior authorizations are included in the role.
