Travel Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - $1,703 per week in Charleston, SC

Job Title: Medical Technologist Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Microbiology Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Hours (08:00 - 16:30) Experience: Minimum 3 years preferred License: Not specified Certifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline. Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or equivalent or relevant specialty lab certification. Must-Have: Experience in culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing. Experience in plating, reading Gram stains, and performing rapid molecular testing. Description: The Medical Technologist will support high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. They will prepare specimens for testing and perform routine and specialized laboratory tests. The role involves performing quality control and troubleshooting quality control errors. The Medical Technologist must recognize and evaluate computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory instruments. Preventative maintenance of equipment is also part of the job. They will communicate technical information to medical and laypersons. Assisting with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures is expected. Participation in continuing education is required. The Medical Technologist must recognize normal and abnormal values and model standards of behavior in daily interactions and activities. Weekend and holiday rotation will be part of the schedule, with on-call requirements not expected. They will not float between service lines and will work strictly within Microbiology. Preferred background includes experience in Micro and Beaker systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with culture setup, Gram staining, and rapid PCR setup. The role may require working with various laboratory equipment and assays. Travelers should be aware that they may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season, which runs from June through November.
