Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Profession: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Shift Hours per Shift: 5 x 8s. 06:30, 10:00, or 13:00. Mostly days but may be asked to cover evenings. Experience: Preferred clinical laboratory experience License: Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license in the state of employment required Certifications: Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA) preferred Description: This role prioritizes and performs a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on various biological specimens. It involves reviewing, evaluating, documenting, and reporting results while preserving patient confidentiality. The position also requires following lab safety and maintenance protocols. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will train and supervise trainees, laboratory assistants, and clerks as needed. Essential Functions: Employ positive patient identification procedures to ensure the integrity of each specimen for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing. Perform proper specimen collection, including phlebotomy procedures as necessary, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation, and storage. Adhere to patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations. Prioritize lab orders according to type and perform various testing following prescribed quality assurance policies and procedures. Perform, evaluate, and document quality control checks. Review testing results, evaluating validity in comparison to anticipated results indicated per procedure manual. Correlate test results with diagnoses and question incompatible results. Thoroughly document and communicate test results, expediting all critical values to appropriate clinicians. Dispose of contaminated materials and equipment according to policy and assure that the work area is cleansed after each test. Perform equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration as needed. Inventory and restock reagents, calibrators, controls, and supplies as needed. Participate in the collection and evaluation of data for performance improvement evaluations. Document adverse events using incident reporting tools. Orient, instruct, and supervise laboratory assistants and clerks as needed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
