Description:
Serves as a technical consultant and direct supervisor of laboratory personnel.
Manages the performance of all laboratory testing.
Develops and maintains policies, standards, and quality control practices.
Oversees lab safety and maintenance.
Acts as a resource medical technologist in assigned section.
Has the responsibility and authority to assure that the laboratory meets all accreditation requirements and applicable standards.
Oversees all laboratory testing and coordinates all point of care testing (POCT).
Reviews and evaluates the validity and accuracy of test results.
Functions as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist when needed.
Identifies education and competency needs and conducts laboratory personnel training programs on instrumentation, technology, and procedures.
Establishes the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including precision, accuracy, reference ranges, and reportable ranges.
Evaluates new and evolving developments in laboratory instrumentation, procedures, reagents, and automation for possible implementation.
Acts as a liaison to other departments for the appropriate laboratory specialty.
Is responsible for the department meeting all regulatory requirements.
Coordinates equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration programs to ensure proper working order.
Oversees quality control and ensures compliance with rules, regulations, and accreditation requirements of regulatory agencies.
Manages staffing to ensure coverage.
Recommends promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisors.
Plans and conducts training programs for medical technicians and medical technologist students and new employees.
Oversees quality control, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance activities for the assigned section.
Manages and maintains all sectional quality control records.
Ensures technological and scientific accuracy of quality assurance tests and procedures.
Recognizes and addresses quality assurance concerns by initiating quality assurance reports and conferring with medical staff on laboratory findings.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
