Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Profession: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: Preferred clinical laboratory experience License: Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license in state of employment Certifications: Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA) preferred Must-Have: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences or allied health technologies or equivalent Description: Located in one of the most beautiful regions in the United States. The facility has a rich history of innovative medical care. It is comprised of a 151-bed hospital, emergency department and medical offices with centers of excellence in specialty care. The job summary involves prioritizing and performing a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on various biological specimens. The role includes reviewing, evaluating, documenting and reporting results. Preserving patient confidentiality and following laboratory safety and maintenance protocols are essential. The position requires training and supervising trainees, laboratory assistants, and clerks as needed. Essential functions include employing positive patient identification procedures to ensure the integrity of each specimen. This encompasses proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, transportation, and storage. Adhering to patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations is crucial. Lab orders must be prioritized according to type, performing various testing while following quality assurance policies and procedures. Quality control checks must be performed, evaluated and documented. Reviewing testing results is necessary to evaluate the validity of test results. The role involves recognizing interdependencies of tests, physiological conditions affecting results, and ensuring accuracy. Correlating test results with diagnoses and addressing incompatible results is essential. Thorough documentation and communication of test results are required. Expedited communication of critical values and results to appropriate clinicians is crucial. It is necessary to dispose of contaminated materials and equipment in accordance with policy. Assuring that the work area is properly cleansed after each test is important. Equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration are part of the role. Inventorying and restocking reagents, calibrators, controls, and supplies as needed is expected. Participation in collecting and evaluating data for performance improvement evaluations is required. Documenting adverse events using an incident reporting tool is part of the responsibilities. Oriented instruction and supervision of laboratory assistants and clerks are necessary.
