Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a night shift position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring MO or compact RN license and at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Details

  • Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a Short Term Acute Care, Magnet, and Teaching hospital with Level I Trauma designation
  • Patient population includes solid tumor oncology (lung, breast, pancreatic), BMT, leukemia, and bone cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation therapy with average stay of 3-5 days
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-5 on general oncology and 1:3 for BMT patients on all shifts
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30) with every other weekend required
  • Uses EPIC charting system
  • Performs IV starts, port and central line access, trach care, and administers chemotherapy (certification required for some tasks)
  • Uses CAD infusion pumps
  • No ventilator care on this unit
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within service line to meet facility needs

Requirements

  • Active MO state RN license or compact license required at time of consideration
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; oncology experience preferred but Med/Surg experience with oncology patients accepted
  • Skills in IV therapy/infusions, port and central line care, PICC line care, and blood product administration required
  • Experience monitoring and administering chemotherapy preferred
  • BMT and stem cell transplant experience preferred but not required
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required, including passing a facial-fit compliant EKG competency exam
  • Phlebotomy skills and feeding tube care/management required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to oncology patients including chemotherapy administration, port/line management, and post-treatment monitoring
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted during the 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Returning permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a travelers
  • Standard travelers may work up to 18 months with a required 3-month break in service afterward
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved
