Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience, teaching hospital background, and a CO or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Surgical Oncology unit within a teaching hospital setting caring for patients with known cancer diagnoses requiring surgical intervention
  • Majority of procedures and diagnoses involve abdominal or pelvic conditions including gynecologic, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and stomach cancers
  • No chemotherapy or biotherapy administered on this unit; chemo certification not required
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:00, various days of the week
  • Weekend shifts required per unit needs
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, which may flex higher based on staffing and unit needs
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities based on facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • 36 total staffed beds

Requirements

  • Active CO or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience required (hard stop requirement)
  • Trauma Level I hospital experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Comfortable working in environments with flexible staffing ratios
  • Skilled in IV therapy, port access/management, central line care, and PICC line care
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as sepsis and anaphylaxis
  • Skilled in symptom management including nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, and dysphagia
  • Experience with post-surgical care, wound care, and ostomy/colostomy management
  • Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols

Additional Information

  • Provide post-operative nursing care to help oncology surgical patients achieve discharge milestones
  • Coordinate care and provide patient/family education and psychosocial support
  • Perform chest tube care, foley catheter management, and dysrhythmia interpretation as needed
  • Manage pain including IV push narcotics and PCA pump administration
  • Navy scrub color required
  • First-time travelers accepted, provided they have teaching hospital experience
  • Previous UCHealth employees (including affiliated hospitals) must disclose prior employment history
  • Candidates who applied to UCHealth internal travel or perm positions within the last two years will not be considered
  • Returning travelers who completed a full year on assignment must wait at least one year before rebooking
  • Maximum 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods excluded from RTO eligibility
  • No blocked scheduling requests permitted
  • Facility-specific modules must be completed within the first week of assignment
