Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Surgical Oncology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience and prior teaching hospital experience.

Details

• Surgical Oncology unit within a teaching hospital setting
• 36 total staffed beds
• Cares primarily for patients with known cancer diagnoses requiring surgical intervention for abdominal or pelvic conditions, including Gynecologic Oncology, Colorectal, Pancreatic, Liver, and Stomach cases
• Nursing care focuses on helping patients achieve post-op milestones for discharge
• No chemotherapy or biotherapy administered on this unit
• Rotating day/night shifts, 3x12 hours
• Weekend shifts required per unit needs
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, which may flex based on staffing needs
• Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active CO or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required (hard stop requirement)
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Comfortable working in environments with flexible staffing ratios
• Chemo certification not required for this role

Additional Information

• Provide post-surgical oncology nursing care including IV therapy, port access and management, central line care, and wound care
• Manage symptoms related to altered mental status, dysphagia, nausea/vomiting, and constipation/diarrhea
• Respond to oncologic emergencies such as sepsis and anaphylaxis
• Provide patient and family education and psychosocial support
• Perform care coordination, chest tube management, colostomy/ileostomy care, and Foley catheter management
• Navy scrub color required
• First-time travelers accepted, provided they have teaching hospital experience
• Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods restricting RTO during certain high-need dates
• No blocked scheduling requests permitted
• Local candidates accepted within 75 miles of the facility
• Completion of facility-specific training modules required within the first week of assignment
