Job Summary:
This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical Oncology at a healthcare facility in San Francisco, California. The role involves providing outpatient oncology care, including chemotherapy management, radiation therapy, and patient education. The nurse will support patients across various cancer types and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 8-hour shifts, minimum of 40 hours per week during the assignment starting on 09/01/2026.
- Required Qualifications: CA RN license, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), minimum of 3 years of experience, outpatient oncology experience, completed references must be available at the time of submission, must be able to float to other UCSF facilities.
- Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) certifications, Chemotherapy (ONCC/ONS), Pediatric Oncology Nursing Certification (CPHON), Neuro Intensive Life Support (NIHSS), Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Palliative Care Certification (PALS), inpatient and pediatric oncology experience, radiation oncology experience, various specialized procedures and skills related to oncology care including port management, radiation therapy, and managing treatment side effects.
- Additional Information: The role involves managing a patient population with various cancer diagnoses such as genitourinary, gynecological, head and neck, breast, gastrointestinal, and central nervous system cancers. Procedures include high-dose rate brachytherapy, gamma knife radiosurgery, and other specialized radiation treatments. Floating to different units within the same facility or to other UCSF facilities within a 75+ mile radius may be required. Orientation hours are provided, and certification requirements include a valid California nursing license and BSN. References from recent employers are required at the time of submittal.
- Unit Details: Patient age groups include adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics. The unit handles approximately 90 patients daily with about 130 visits per day, supported by interpretation services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretaries. The main patient diagnoses involve various cancer types and the unit is equipped for HDR brachytherapy and gamma knife radiosurgery.
