Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a night shift assignment requiring OCN certification and 2 years of oncology experience.

Details

• Inpatient oncology unit within a hospital setting
• Adult to geriatric patient population with oncology diagnoses ranging from diagnosis through end of life care, including hematology diagnoses and DNR/CC patients
• Manages oncologic emergencies and chemo precautions, including morphine drips, dilaudid drips, CADD pumps, and PCA pumps
• 1:6 patient ratio on a 19-bed unit with an average daily census of 15
• Uses Epic (required), Pyxis, and SBAR communication
• Night shift, 4x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Works every other weekend
• Occasional floating within facility and possibly to a nearby campus 3 miles away
• No on-call requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required at time of consideration
• BLS and OCN certification required
• Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred
• Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, blood and blood product administration, and central/implanted line care
• Experienced in chemotherapy administration, monitoring, and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
• Knowledge of neutropenic precautions
• First-time travelers accepted

Additional Information

• Provide oncology nursing care across the full spectrum from diagnosis to end of life
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, and RTO must be finalized at time of consideration
• No RTO can be requested during orientation week
• Holiday coverage required: if 1-2 major holidays fall during the assignment, no holiday RTO can be requested; if 3 holidays fall during the assignment, one holiday RTO request may be considered
• Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Compliance items must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing to avoid start date delays
• Previous employees must be away from all facilities within this health system for one full year before returning as a traveler
