Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN) position in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing care on a 55-bed unit specializing in medical surgical and orthopedic patients, including joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive. The RN will work night shifts and deliver compassionate, team-oriented patient care in a dynamic hospital environment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 48 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid RN license; BLS certification (AHA); ACLS preferred; 2 years of experience as a registered nurse; location within 50 miles of Omaha, NE; driver's license required at submittal.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with MedSurg/Ortho patients, ability to interpret tele monitor strips, proficiency with electronic medical records, ability to titrate drips such as Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine, and experience with PCA pumps.
- Float: Yes, float to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a bed.
- Additional Information:
- Orientation includes 2 days of unit-specific training.
- Nursing staff must pass a skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher.
- Full compliance with nail policy: artificial nails are prohibited.
- Mechanical lifts available in every other room.
- Focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness.
- Schedule is posted 6 weeks in advance with flexibility for staff needs.
- RTO (Request for Time Off) must be approved upfront, with up to 7 days off permitted within a 13-week contract.
- The unit serves a diverse patient population including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese speakers.
