Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neurosurgery unit position requiring 2+ years of experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in the Neurosurgery unit of a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
• Unit specializes in pre- and post-operative cranial and spinal surgery patients, serving as secondary care for general neurology and stroke patients
• Patient ratios of 1:4-6
• Unit commonly manages intermittent lumbar and surgical drains
• Unit does not manage titratable drips (except Heparin), trach/total laryngectomy, EVDs, fresh TPA administration, or arterial lines
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Required to work every other weekend
• Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
• No on-call responsibilities
• EPIC charting system used, experience preferred
• 13-week contract length is firm

Requirements

• Active RN license (MO state or compact) required
• Compact license must match permanent state of residence
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Heparin administration required
• Skilled in medication administration, IV therapy/phlebotomy, and peripheral line care/management
• Experience in Med/Surg, telemetry, neurological/psychiatric, and pre/post neurosurgery settings preferred
• Must be able to accommodate facial hair fit-testing requirements for respirator use with no exceptions

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care to pre- and post-operative cranial and spinal surgery patients along with general neurology and stroke patients
• Navy blue scrubs required
• No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
• Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Standard travelers may work at the facility for up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
• Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not specifically excluded but travel experience is not required
