Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring 5 years of experience and proficiency with a complex trauma patient population.

Details

  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Patient ratio of 1:4–6
  • Patients are received from the ED, OR, or ICU
  • Geriatric trauma unit serving patients 55+ with trauma, including abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, and falls
  • Acute care surgery cases include appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, and TBI
  • Required skills include blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin management, PCA, spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
  • Specialized equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
  • Charting is done in Epic (experience required)
  • Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Short-term acute care hospital setting
  • Magnet-designated and teaching hospital
  • Level I Trauma Center with 1,266 staffed beds

Requirements

  • Active MO RN license or compact license valid in Missouri required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 5 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must pass a Relias EKG exam; EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with trauma patient populations including TBI, spinal cord injuries, ortho trauma, and acute care surgery required
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
  • Travelers may work at this health system for up to 18 months before a mandatory 3-month break is required
  • Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Orientation modules must be completed prior to or during orientation
  • Parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department; night shift workers may park in employee parking at no charge
