Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift role requiring 2+ years med/surg experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Medical Surgical unit (6900 GI/GU) at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma, teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, GU, and medical overflow cases on a high-turnover surgical unit
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-6
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within service line
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring with basic tele knowledge preferred
  • Unit administers drips including Heparin, Lidocaine (pain only), Bicarb, Bivalirudin, and occasional stable non-titrated Amiodarone
  • Manages PCAs, epidurals, and CBIs with various irrigation solutions
  • Performs special procedures including foley catheters, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and TURP protocols for colorectal patients

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (compact must match permanent residence)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers
  • Required skills: IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs
  • Required skills: colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube care and management
  • Required skills: continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) management
  • Required skills: administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
  • Required skills: cardiac monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, remote telemetry monitoring
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must be clean-shaven or have facial hair compatible with respirator fit testing

Additional Information

  • Provide excellent patient care with strong documentation skills and a team-oriented approach
  • Navy scrub color required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per contract; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; no local candidates accepted
  • Permanent employees of the health system must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Standard travelers may work up to 18 months before requiring a 3-month break in service
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
