Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Medical Surgical RN for a day shift position at a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital requiring an active IL license and minimum 2 years' experience.

Details

• Work in the Medical Surgical unit of an acute care hospital
• Average daily census of 21 patients with a 1:7 patient ratio
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 0645-1915
• Required to work every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
• Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

• Active Illinois RN license required or in application process with an ETA to obtain
• Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, and PICC line management
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE required
• Preferred skills include starting and maintaining IVs, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, heparin and PCA administration, wound care/wound vac, nasal cannula, telemetry monitoring, and rapid response/code team experience
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

• Deliver medical surgical nursing care within a Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility
• Any solid color scrubs permitted
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
• Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• RTO ideally limited to no more than 5 days
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
