Job Summary
Medical Surgical Floor (MS) in a healthcare facility located in Ellsworth, ME. This position involves providing care to diverse patient populations, including those with total joint replacements, general medical conditions, and surgical cases such as appendectomies, colectomies, and urological procedures. The role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with rotating shifts on a 12-hour night schedule.
Job Details
- Position Description: URGENT start needed with simplified interview process. Shifts are rotating 12-hour nights.
- Required Qualifications: RN license; BLS certification; 2 years of experience as an RN or 1 year experience as a Tech; relevant experience in medical-surgical units or nursing homes.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12 hours, minimum 36 hours per week.
- Additional Information:
- Patient types include total joints, general medical conditions, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel surgeries, urology procedures, CHF, PNA, sepsis, DM, and patients with addiction issues.
- Patient ratios are 1:5-6 for RNs during days and 1:6-7 during nights; 1:10-12 for Techs.
- Skills include handling chest tubes, traches, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals, IV antibiotics, and Heparin infusions.
- Prior charge RN experience is highly preferred but not mandatory; training for charge responsibilities is available.
- Support staff includes a charge nurse, hospitalist, and 24/7 centralized telemonitoring tech.
- Nurses are expected to make two attempts to start their own IVs before requesting assistance.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- May float to ICU or Emergency Department to assist with patient care as needed.
- General hospital orientation plus one shift on the unit.
- Weekend rotation occurs every other week; no on-call requirement.
- Holiday staffing expectation: 2 out of 4 holidays.
- Scrub color is flexible but must be professional.
