Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Level I Trauma unit requiring 5 years of experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Level I Trauma Center Medical Surgical unit in a Magnet & Teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes geriatric trauma (55+), trauma victims (abuse, MVA, MVC, falls), and acute care surgery cases (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
  • Patients admitted from ED, OR, or ICU
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-6
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
  • Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating required within service line
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Special equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (compact must match permanent residence)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
  • Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Skilled in blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin administration, and PCA management
  • Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, and ortho trauma required
  • Skilled in care of peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, surgical drains, and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Proficient in CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, and oxygen administration devices
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management required
  • BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
  • Prior charge nurse and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Must have facial hair compliant with fit testing standards or be willing to shave

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive Med/Surg nursing care to trauma and acute care surgery patients within a high-acuity Level I Trauma Center
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Travel experience required; first-time travelers are not being considered for this role
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • Standard travelers may remain for up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
