Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift hospital position requiring 2+ years of Med/Surg experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit with multi-level care including stepdown patients
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15), 3x per week
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• 13-26 week contract length
• Floating required within or near the facility
• Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture cases
• Isolation area maintained for COVID patients
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs acceptable at submission)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required (hardstop)
• Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, starting and maintaining IVs
• Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration
• GI/GU skills required: colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis management
• Cardiac skills required: interpretation of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (remote), use of rapid response teams
• Medication administration experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA required
• Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions experience required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Telemetry/MS-Tele work setting experience preferred
• Experience with tracheostomy care, ABG interpretation, CVA care, and surgical drains preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Medical Surgical unit with stepdown-level patients
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, with hospital orientation occurring during the first week; attendance at all orientation classes is required
• Must complete pre-start online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), with additional annual training required
• Scrub color requirement: Navy/White
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays during the contract
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a reduced rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler, with facility approval required for rehire
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem and travel contract status
