Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a 32-bed unit at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center, working 12-hour night shifts with regional float requirements.

Details

  • Work setting is a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma facility that is also a Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Unit is a 32-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry floor with an average daily census of 32 patients
  • Common diagnoses include stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, with surge ratios potentially reaching 1:7-8
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Low census call is possible; night shift staff may be called back until 3:00 AM
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Floating is required within Region 3, which includes Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) facilities — candidates who are not agreeable to this should not apply
  • EMR is Epic
  • Unit utilizes virtual nursing (VNO) with 10 cameras; virtual RNs can serve as a second witness for certain medications, monitor high-acuity patients, and assist with admissions and discharges
  • Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, management of non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Support staff includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse (may or may not carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and 24/7 intensivist coverage
  • Telemetry monitoring technicians are available on the unit
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental onboarding
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract end date
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
  • Required scrub color is navy
