Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and active NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work in a 32-bed Medical/Surgical unit (4W) within a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital
- Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care cases
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with surge ratios up to 1:7–8
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities) per regional needs — do not apply if not agreeable to floating
- Low census call possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Scheduling is done on a 6-week cycle
- Epic EMR used
- Virtual nursing (VNO) system in use with 10 cameras — virtual RNs assist with med witnessing, patient monitoring, and admission/discharge tasks
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Department support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7) — no HUC on unit
- Telemetry monitoring technicians are available on the unit
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- A clinical interview with the manager is required as part of the hiring process
- Navy scrubs are required
