Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical with Telemetry in a busy Level 1 Trauma Hospital located in Macon, Georgia. The position involves providing high-quality patient care on day shifts, with schedules including 12-hour shifts and a 6-week cycle. This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced RNs to work within a collaborative team environment, managing a diverse patient population with complex clinical needs.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Day shifts, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with every 6-week schedule cycle. There are 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 per cycle.
  • Required Qualifications: Active nursing license, BLS certification is required. Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency is required, meaning the traveler must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance. Preferred certifications include ACLS and a national certification in medical-surgical nursing or nephrology nursing.
  • Preferred Qualifications: ACLS certification, advanced certifications related to medical-surgical nursing are preferred.
  • Patient Types and Common Diagnoses: Orthopedic and trauma fractures, head trauma with hemorrhage, osteomyelitis, acute or chronic diseases, post-operative surgeries, and co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, CNA: 2-3 per shift.
  • Responsibilities: Assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, patient bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and transporting patients. Conducting blood draws from blood bank, managing IVs including PIV starts, insulin and heparin drips, chest tube management, wound care, post-op monitoring, cardiac telemetry interpretation, discharge planning, and patient education.
  • Support Services: Unit secretary coverage, resource nurses, discharge nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage.
  • Technology and Equipment: EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Strips, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, glucometer, PCA pumps, suction machines, and telemetry monitors.
  • Orientation: One day of facility orientation followed by two days of departmental training.
  • Additional Notes: RN scrub color is navy; parking is free; the unit culture is busy but team-oriented.
