Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
  • 32-bed Med/Tele unit with PCU-level overflow care
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID BiPAP, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 1:5-6 on nights; PCU-level overflow is 1:3
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
  • RT equipment on unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are responsible for troubleshooting these devices
  • RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac rhythm strips; telemetry monitors are available at bedside and at the nurses' station
  • Charting is performed in Epic (experience preferred)
  • 12-hour shifts, days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • First to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • PCU experience required
  • Telemetry/cardiac nursing experience required, with the ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit is more cardiac/telemetry focused with PCU overflow capabilities
  • Charge nurses are present on both shifts and may occasionally take a light patient load of 2-3 patients
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are present on the unit with a goal ratio of 1:10
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning that Sunday
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Candidates who are or have been employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit Health, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible for this position (candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
  • RTO requests of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
