Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring 2+ years of current MICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) of a cancer hospital and research center
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients with complex critical illnesses including oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleeds, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, oncologic treatment complications, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Perform and manage treatments such as mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
  • Support patients requiring bronchoscopy or endoscopy for underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions
  • 13-week assignment on a night shift schedule (3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM) with potential for a rotating day/night schedule based on department needs
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, though changes are not guaranteed
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of current MICU/critical care experience, consistently practiced within the last 12 months
  • Experience in IV therapy, including starting and maintaining IVs, accessing/managing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care
  • Respiratory/thoracic skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, and ventilator management
  • Experience managing chronic/acute renal failure patients
  • Skilled in continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with external ventricular drain (EVD) management preferred
  • Proficient in infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, and phlebotomy
  • Cardiac monitoring skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Knowledge of IV insulin protocols
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; coworker references are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to hemodynamically compromised MICU patients
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
  • Previous travel healthcare experience is required
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been separated from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract prior to placement, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract, as delays can impact start dates
