Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring 2 years of current critical care experience and an active Ohio compact license in hand.

Details

• Medical ICU setting within a cancer hospital treating adult and geriatric patients
• Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, oncologic treatment complications, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
• Common treatments include mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
• Patients frequently require bronchoscopy or endoscopy for underlying pulmonary and GI conditions
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• 13-week assignment on a rotating Day/Night 12-hour shift schedule, reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Night shift option available, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-07:30
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in the MICU specialty, working consistently within the last 12 months
• Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skills required include IV therapy, accessing/managing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Respiratory skills required include BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips required
• Experience managing acute/chronic renal failure and IV insulin protocols required
• Cardiac monitoring skills required including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure required
• Infection prevention and isolation precaution/PPE knowledge required
• Phlebotomy skills required
• External ventricular drain (EVD) management preferred
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; no coworker references accepted

• Provide critical care nursing to hemodynamically compromised adult and geriatric MICU patients with complex medical needs

• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at any Ohio State University hospital location
• RTO must be submitted with the contract and built in, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict credentialing timelines
