MICU Travel Nurse (RN) – Medical Intensive Care Unit Contract in Columbus, Ohio
Join a high-acuity Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in Columbus, Ohio, as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) caring for complex adult and geriatric patients. This 13-week critical care nursing assignment offers the opportunity to strengthen your ICU expertise while managing oncologic emergencies, respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, and other serious conditions. Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,940–$2,040
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- End Date: February 1, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour night shifts, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Healthcare Setting: Adult Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
- Documentation: Epic electronic medical record (EMR)
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
- Unit Profile: 24-bed MICU with an average daily census of approximately 23 patients
MICU Travel Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of current MICU or comparable acute-care critical care nursing experience
- Recent, consistent specialty experience within the last 12 months
- Active RN license in hand, either an applicable compact license or Ohio RN license
- ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
- Experience with Epic charting and electronic medical records
- Proficiency caring for mechanically ventilated patients and managing ventilators
- Experience with arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and hemodynamic monitoring
- Ability to manage vasoactive and cardiac medication infusions, continuous IV sedation, IV insulin protocols, and complex medication regimens
- Strong assessment skills, including interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and cardiac rhythms
- Ability to complete required credentialing and Ohio fingerprinting promptly after acceptance
- Two professional references, including at least one reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or other formal leader
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
Critical Care RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients in a high-acuity MICU
- Monitor and manage patients with oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, pulmonary hypertension, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, and multisystem organ dysfunction
- Care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, CRRT, pulmonary artery catheter monitoring, arterial pressure monitoring, and cardiac monitoring
- Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips while responding rapidly to changes in patient condition
- Manage central venous catheters, PICC lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, ports, and other critical-care access devices
- Administer blood products, chemotherapy, procedural sedation, and complex medication therapies according to established protocols
- Perform or assist with IV starts, phlebotomy, airway suctioning, infection prevention, and isolation precautions
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans in Epic
- Promote a safe, respectful, and evidence-based patient care environment
