Description
American Traveler is hiring a Medical ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring ICU experience with ventilators, arterial/central lines, and vasopressor titration.
Details
- Acute care setting in a 20-bed Medical ICU
- Patient population historically includes sepsis, ARDS, pneumonia, AKI, ETOH withdrawal, and overdose cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 RN to 2 patients
- PCT support available at a ratio of 1 to 10 patients
- Charge RN and 24/7 house supervisor present on every shift
- Intensivist coverage in house approximately 0700-1900 with telemedicine intensivist support and on-call attending after hours
- Tele techs monitor telemetry on Phillips monitors, with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting strips
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts scheduled 7:00pm-7:30am
- Required to work every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights)
- Holiday coverage based on staffing needs
- No call or standby requirements
- Travelers float first, potentially to a stepdown unit (3 patients) or general medical unit (4 patients)
Requirements
- Active IL RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Proficient in interpreting EKG strips
- Experience with arterial lines and central lines required
- Advanced skills in caring for ventilated patients
- Advanced knowledge of titrating vasopressors and cardioactive medications
- Able to troubleshoot RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices
- Negative drug screen required for all panels due to facility's Drug-Free Campus policy
Additional Information
- Responsible for titrating a wide variety of vasoactive and cardioactive medications per medication order parameters
- Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours learning EPIC, 8 hours with a unit educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor
- Scrubs are not facility-provided; no specific color required but sweatshirts are not permitted
- Local candidates are accepted, with local pay rates available for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- COVID vaccination is not required for this position
