Job Description

Job Title: MRI Technologist Profession: MRI Tech Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology Certifications: ARMRIT - Certified MRI Technologist or ARRT - MR - ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging BLS - Basic Life Support Must-Have: Excellent communication skills Ability to function independently and under pressure Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and ingenuity in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to prevent deterioration of patient conditions and minimize pain due to error or poor technique. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification. Reviews images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies correct identity of patients prior to performing procedures according to policy and procedures. Ensures patients' privacy and comfort are accommodated, maintaining dignity throughout the exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Understands and documents pre-procedure verification and Time Out processes when appropriate. Demonstrates understanding of pre-and post-procedural care. Prepares patients for procedures. Demonstrates and understands sterile techniques. Prepares trays and catheters for procedures and participates in biopsies if applicable. Demonstrates proficiency when applicable. Prepares and may administer contrast. Verifies orders that include contrast, checks patient labs and dosing of contrast based on patient weight. Uses appropriate safety devices to protect patients' hearing during exams. Understands anatomical positioning and correct labeling of body parts, including immobilization techniques for infants. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and includes all appropriate anatomy. Employs critical thinking skills. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure optimal patient studies while maintaining image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions to a supervisor or service provider. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policies and cleaning schedules. Operates patient monitoring systems. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures patients' questions, concerns, or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Completes required documentation concisely, legibly, and with precise terminology. Reads emails each day scheduled for work and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and education training without prompting. Produces acceptable images and follows established exam protocols. Ensures equipment is operational by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed. Maintains MRI suite in a safe environment. Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining the department in a clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions patients, assists them on and off the procedure table. Performs patient charging activities on the service day. Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment. Lends knowledge and assistance to others as needed to maximize departmental efficiency. Performs clerical and support duties as warranted to ensure continuity of services. Keeps supervisor informed on all responsibilities, ensuring prompt notification of problems. Maintains individual productivity rate. Operates all workstations associated with the MRI scanner. Maintains Joint Commission standards and any other regulatory agency standards. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
