Description:
Provides health care services by applying pulsed radio-frequency waves and magnetic energy to assist with diagnosis or treatment.
Performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures, computer processing, and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.
Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedures.
Acts as a role model for comprehensive care, addressing the physiological and socio-cultural needs of patients and their families.
Serves as a resource to other MRI staff in managing complex issues.
Assures equipment is present and accounted for at the beginning and end of each shift.
Facilitates employee development and assists as needed.
Essential Functions:
Verifies patient clinical history to ensure documentation is ready for the licensed practitioner.
Completes proper patient identification and order verification.
Prepares patients for procedures by providing instructions to achieve desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
Selects and operates magnetic resonance systems, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
Positions patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting patient ability and comfort.
Prepares and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Evaluates images and data for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, and pushes images to the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) for permanent patient records.
Maintains a clean work environment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department employees.
Assignments are moderately complex; follows established protocols and has some flexibility in exercising judgment.
Works under minimal supervision and may serve as a technical specialist or mentor to less experienced staff.
Physical Demands:
Involves occasional lifting and carrying of weights up to 50 pounds.
Sits, stands, and walks occasionally during shifts.
Engages in some physical activities like pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
May involve reaching above shoulder level and other physical tasks relevant to job duties.
