Summary:
The MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations to generate detailed 3D images used for diagnostic evaluation. This role includes direct patient interaction, administration of intravenous contrast when indicated, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure accurate imaging outcomes. Responsibilities also include maintaining MRI equipment, following strict safety standards, and delivering patient-centered care throughout the imaging experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Screen patients for MRI safety risks and contraindications prior to imaging to ensure compliance with safety guidelines
Explain MRI procedures to patients and address any questions or concerns to promote understanding and comfort
Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot MRI equipment, reporting technical issues as needed to ensure proper operation
Establish IV access and administer contrast agents according to physician orders and protocols, while monitoring for adverse reactions
Evaluate image quality during scans and adjust imaging parameters to achieve optimal diagnostic results
Accurately document procedural details, imaging settings, and patient observations in accordance with facility standards
Work collaboratively with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to support timely and accurate diagnostic interpretation
Maintain a clean, organized imaging environment in line with infection control and facility policies
Adhere to all hospital safety requirements, including MRI safety zones, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulations
Perform additional responsibilities within the scope of MRI Technologist practice as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong critical thinking abilities, commitment to service excellence, and effective communication skills
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
Ability to understand written instructions, follow verbal directions, and use basic computer systems
Physical ability to remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the department, and lift or maneuver equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bending
Ability to work effectively with diverse healthcare personnel while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude
Fine motor skills and manual dexterity required for patient care and equipment operation
Ability to manage frequent patient interaction while working efficiently under time constraints and pressure
Capability to work independently or with limited supervision when necessary
Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and maintain attention to detail
Adequate visual acuity and communication skills to safely and effectively perform job duties
