Job Title: MRI Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: MRI Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Swing shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours (15:00-23:30) Experience: 1+ years of MRI Tech experience License: Current Utah State Licensure required to administer contrast Certifications: ARRT registered technologist, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Must-Have: IV certification competency Description: Ensures proper patient identification and order verification. Prepares the patient for the exam. Performs MRI examinations following departmental protocol. Understands cross-sectional anatomy and demonstrates anatomical positioning competency. Critiques own films to ensure quality. Completes studies within acceptable time limitations without compromising patient care or the quality of the examination. In coordination with the radiologist, selects proper scanning techniques and protocols. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of protocol relating to contrast administration. As ordered by the physician and under radiologist or physician supervision, administers intravenous contrast material to patients. Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques. Understands and operates all MRI equipment and related information systems effectively to ensure quality image production. Exhibits understanding and proficiency with electronic imaging. Views, transfers, archives, and manipulates images competently. Has a working knowledge of the MRI scanner and troubleshoots as needed. Understands the shutdown and start-up procedures of equipment. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the magnet, cryogens, gradient amplifiers, and all relevant computer hardware and software. Understands the Quench procedure and identifies situations when it should be performed. Adheres to and comprehends the MRI safety policy and the FOUR ZONE concept. Understands proper MR magnet safety in the event of an emergency. Thoroughly and accurately completes all required documentation, including time stamps and image storage. Follows appropriate protocol for medical necessity, coding and charging, and obtaining consents if necessary. Documents any events that may occur for quality assurance. Maintains a current quality control program and reports any equipment failures or problems. Post-hire expectations include meeting departmental IV certification competency within three months. Must complete necessary modules as applicable within six months of hire. Required skills include hearing, lifting, manual dexterity, seeing, and standing.
