- Strong background in cross-sectional anatomy, physical sciences, and MRI physics.
- Excellent technical skills and knowledge of physiology.
Description:
This position operates and prepares specialized equipment to perform magnetic imaging procedures.
The technologist applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and patient needs.
Responsibilities include performing MRI imaging procedures and positioning patients and associated coils to obtain optimum study results.
The technologist provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged, and any specific instructions the patient may need.
All patient safety questionnaires are reviewed prior to introducing any patients into the MRI scan room.
It is essential to ensure all MRI images are appropriately labeled as specified by department SOP.
The technologist evaluates images for technical acceptability and ensures images are transmitted to the PACS in a timely fashion.
Additionally, all studies performed must be completed in the Radiology Information System in a timely manner.
The technologist ensures the radiology room and equipment are clean at the start and end of each shift, including removal of soiled linen.
Patient-related documents are scanned, and supplies necessary for safe duties must be maintained in the radiographic room.
Accurate recording of all required patient tracking information into the Radiology Information System is essential.
Exams must be scheduled in the Radiology Information System as required.
It is important to inform supervisors of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
The technologist assists physicians directly as required and calls for in-patients when necessary.
Related clerical duties are performed in the absence of support personnel.
Maintaining safety standards via strict adherence to safety guidelines is crucial to preventing the introduction of ferromagnetic material into the scan room.
The technologist protects self, patients, and employees by following infection control policies and protocols.
Attendance at in-services and other professional development meetings is required.
Maintaining good standing and licensure specific to the job is essential, along with adherence to relevant public health codes.
Other relevant duties may be assigned as needed.
