Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with no single home base facility — travelers float across multiple facilities within Zone 3 (Denver city center area)
  • Float pool covers a range of specialties including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Observation units
  • May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS/Tele units
  • Patient population is adult and geriatric with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
  • Heparin drip titration is required
  • RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is present on the unit
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Weekend requirement of 6–9 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance; may be assigned to a single facility for the week (with possible intra-facility floating) or assigned via Just-In-Time (JIT) notification 1–2 hours before shift start
  • On-call/standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census

Requirements

  • Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) license currently in hand — pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele RN experience required
  • Prior neuro nursing experience preferred
  • BSN is not required
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 60 miles from the Denver city center to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

  • Travelers must secure housing that allows them to float to any facility within the full 60-mile zone, regardless of where they choose to stay
  • Zone 3 facilities are located within 10–40 miles of the Denver city center in the Lakewood, Longmont, and Westminster, CO areas
  • Designated charge nurses on each unit typically do not take patient assignments, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally carry a small patient load
  • Nurse aides are available on the unit
  • Orientation consists of approximately 1–2 days with a preceptor; clinicians must be physically present in state during the orientation week even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
  • Holiday rotation coverage may be required
  • Scrubs may be any color
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit or affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity Health) within the past year are not eligible — candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
