Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Float RN for an ED Holding support role requiring telemetry and PCU-level care skills with prior travel experience.

Details

• ED Holding unit located within the Emergency Department supporting patients awaiting inpatient beds
• Care for adult medical/surgical diagnoses, with potential PCU-level patients
• Float requirement to ED and MedSurg areas as needed
• Target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU-level patients
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15), 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
• Standard equipment including cardiac monitors and IV pumps
• Manager-based scheduling
• Navy scrubs required

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• CPI and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Skills required: MS/Tele care, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), Rapid Response Team use, colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure care, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgical care, spinal cord injury care, traumatic brain injury care, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK at submission)

Additional Information

• Provide direct care to medical/surgical and telemetry patients within a high-acuity ED holding environment
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
• Unit orientation is 12 hours, with weekly orientation scheduling
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• All candidates will be interviewed prior to placement due to high unit turnover
• Must complete pre-start and annual online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
• First-time travelers are not being considered for this position due to travel experience requirement
