Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele night shift position requiring 2+ years of post-surgical experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit caring for surgical patients including colorectal, general surgery, hepatobiliary, and orthopedic/spine cases
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• 12-hour night shifts, 18:45-07:15, 3x12 schedule
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required
• Occasional floating required
• Self-scheduling based on unit needs with nurse manager input
• Uses Pyxis, SBAR, and Epic systems

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact)
• Current certifications: BLS required, ACLS and NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with post-surgical unit experience preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral and central line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and rapid response/code team activation
• Experience with wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and IV insulin protocols
• Experience with feeding tube management and surgical drain care
• First-time travelers accepted

Additional Information

• Provide post-surgical nursing care to patients recovering from colorectal, general, hepatobiliary, and orthopedic/spine procedures
• Unit orientation totals 36 hours with weekly orientation schedule
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Scrubs not provided; navy blue or white required
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
• Current per diem clinicians at the facility must choose between per diem or travel status and cannot hold both
• Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units with separate transportation
• Assignment length of 13 weeks or longer through 2/27 end date, with candidate preference for longer contracts welcomed
