Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a 13-week night shift contract requiring VA or compact RN license and at least 1 year of Med/Surg Tele experience.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit within a teaching hospital setting
• Patient population includes respiratory illness, renal failure, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis
• Patient ratio of 1:4 on days/weekends and 1:5 on nights
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:00
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Floating required within scope of practice per facility policy
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required, pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start date
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• BSN preferred
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomy care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, PCA, heparin protocols, wound care/wound vac, IV insulin protocols, and isolation precautions preferred
• Two professional references required at time of consideration
• Copies of required certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

• Deliver direct patient care to Med/Surg Tele patients including monitoring, medication administration, and management of complex diagnoses
• Maximum of 40 hours of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, and must be disclosed prior to offer acceptance
• Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine an appropriate start date
• Nursys license verification required at time of consideration
• Previous UVA Health employment (permanent or traveler) must be disclosed; a 1-year separation and leadership approval required for rehire eligibility
• External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
• No radius rule applies to this position
