Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency in a busy surgical trauma unit.

Details

  • Work in a 26-bed acute care unit with a diverse population primarily comprised of General Surgery and Trauma patients
  • Post-surgical patients make up 90% of the unit with the remaining 10% having medical diagnoses
  • All rooms equipped for cardiac monitoring, capnography/end-tidal CO2 monitoring, and continuous pulse oximetry
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:00
  • Work 36 or 48 hours per week on a 13-week assignment
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required, including 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Must adhere to facility float policy within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and oxygen administration
  • Skilled in IV therapy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral/PICC line management
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry remote monitoring
  • Skilled in wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and IV insulin protocols
  • Experience with post-surgical patient care including surgical drains, mastectomy, and skin graft care preferred
  • Two professional references required

Additional Information

  • Provide acute care nursing to a surgical and trauma patient population requiring cardiac and respiratory monitoring
  • Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract, which must be disclosed at time of consideration
  • Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to coordinate an appropriate start date
  • Nursys license verification required for consideration
  • Previous permanent staff or internal travelers must have 1-year separation plus leadership approval to return
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
  • No radius rule applies to this unit
  • Up to 16 non-billable hours of specialty-specific training modules completed during orientation
