Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2+ years of specialty experience and an active LA or compact RN license.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes chest pain, CAD, PVD, arrhythmias, DM, COPD exacerbation, PNA, HTN, MI, renal failure, PE, CHF, GI bleed, and syncope
• Potential for med-surg overflow patients including GI bleed, sepsis, CVA, and COVID+
• Unit performs pre/post cath lab procedures, PPM/AICD, ablations, vascular surgeries (CEAs, fem-pops), and bedside sheath pulling
• Titrates cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and heparin
• Utilizes telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, PCAs, epidurals, and wound vacs
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Epic charting system preferred
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)
• May float to other inpatient units
• No call-in shifts required
• No block scheduling guarantees

Requirements

• Active RN license (LA state or compact) required in hand upon consideration
• BLS certification required
• ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and port accessing/management
• Experience with blood product administration and central, peripheral, and PICC line care
• Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs
• Experience managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Knowledge of heparin protocols and IV insulin protocols preferred
• Experience with BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration preferred
• Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and on-unit telemetry monitoring
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
• Experience with pre/post cardiac cath, post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac surgery care
• Sheath removal experience preferred
• Feeding tube care and management preferred
• Current NURSYS report required

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive med-surg telemetry nursing care including drip titration, cardiac monitoring, and post-procedural care
• May be assigned to an emergency response team during declared emergency events with expectation to remain onsite or serve as relief staff
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Orientation is held five days a week
• First-time travelers considered if they have at least 2 years of specialty experience
• Candidates must reside more than 65 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Two Manager/Supervisor references required prior to start (Charge RNs not accepted)
• RTO must be disclosed and discussed during the interview process
• Previous Ochsner Health permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a 1-year separation before returning as a travel employee
