Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a mixed-acuity Med/Surg Tele oncology unit, with inpatient nursing experience required and day/night rotating shifts available.

Details

• Mixed-acuity PCU/MS Tele unit caring for medical oncology patients, with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
• Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to blood cancers, with a high-acuity focus
• Staffing ratios target 1:4–5 but may vary based on unit needs
• Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00–19:30; Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–7:30
• Rotating day/night contract — candidates may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination based on departmental needs; shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Weekend shifts are variable
• Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Charting system: Epic (required)
• Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Chemotherapy administration competence is not required; optional 2-day chemo training course available for interested travelers

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required, with current and consistent acute care experience in the past 12 months
• MS/Tele experience required; PCU experience not required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous travel experience preferred but not required
• Core skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, isolation precautions/PPE, heparin protocols, and use of rapid response/code teams
• Preferred skills include: port access/management, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tubes, HFNC, tracheostomy care, CBI, PCA, IV insulin protocols, surgical drains, and telemetry
• Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
• 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership (supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted

Additional Information

• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Pediatric patients are rarely admitted to this unit and would typically be cared for by permanent staff; pediatric experience is not required
• Former employees of this facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to consideration and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Local candidates are accepted at the same bill rate
• Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly upon contract signing; candidates outside Ohio within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
