Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry unit position requiring EPIC experience and at least 2 years of current acute care experience in the specialty.

Details

  • Work in the Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry unit of a cancer hospital
  • Care for patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving chemotherapy, diagnostic services, and symptom management
  • Patients require continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration and management of comorbidities
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00-7:30
  • May be scheduled for days, nights, or a rotating combination based on department needs, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Requirements

  • Active RN license, Ohio state or compact, required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN acute care experience required, current and consistent within the last 12 months, and specific to the specialty being applied for
  • EPIC charting system experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Skills required: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, PICC line management, IV starts, assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management, and interpretation of ABGs
  • Additional preferred skills: administration of chemotherapy, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), PCA medication management, and titration of insulin drips
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide telemetry nursing care to oncology patients including chemotherapy administration and symptom management
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as the contract is signed due to strict state requirements
  • Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance will be required to drive to a fingerprinting location; those at extreme distances will be mailed a fingerprinting packet
  • RTO must be submitted with the initial submission and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • First-time travelers are welcome, with an emphasis on willingness to learn and grow nursing practice
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible to be hired as travelers
