Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of inpatient nursing experience and a compact or OH RN license.

Details

• Mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
• Cares for medical oncology patients with a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to some blood cancers
• High acuity patient population
• Rare pediatric patients may be present but are typically cared for by permanent staff
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, and continuous bladder irrigation equipment
• Epic EMR experience required
• 12-hour rotating shifts (day and/or night) reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with assignments subject to change based on staffing needs
• Staffing ratios target 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs
• Weekend shifts are variable
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of submission
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Acute care experience must be current and within the specialty applied for, with consistent work in the last 12 months
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central/peripheral/PICC line care, and blood product administration
• Skills in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code team utilization
• Skills in isolation precautions and PPE use
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Provides direct patient care to a high-acuity medical oncology population, including administration and monitoring of chemotherapy for interested candidates
• Chemotherapy competence not required, with optional professional development through a 2-day chemo course
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Preferred skills include managing BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, continuous bladder irrigation, PCA, IV insulin protocols, and surgical drains
• Locals accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel positions at this facility
• RTO must be requested at time of submission and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; travel experience not required
• Mandatory Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed promptly after contract signing
