Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a cancer hospital oncology unit requiring 2+ years of current acute care experience and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

• Med/Surg Oncology unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with solid tumor cancers
• Common diagnoses include breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer, as well as patients undergoing antineoplastic chemotherapy
• Cares for patients across the full cancer journey, from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
• Target staffing ratio of 1:4, with occasional 1:5
• Day/night shifts available
• Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling
• Floating required to other Med/Surg Oncology units
• Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in the specialty, consistently practiced within the last 12 months
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Telemetry interpretation and monitoring skills required
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, accessing and managing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response management
• Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
• Tracheostomy care/management skills preferred
• Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

• Provide direct medical/surgical nursing care to oncology patients with true med surg issues

• Previous travel experience preferred, but first-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for a travel assignment at any location within the system
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Ohio fingerprinting must be completed urgently upon signing the contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
