Med/Surg Telemetry Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Madison, Wisconsin
Experienced Registered Nurses can join a collaborative orthopedic trauma and medical-surgical telemetry team in Madison, Wisconsin. This travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to provide high-acuity inpatient care while working alongside an interdisciplinary healthcare team in a vibrant city known for its strong healthcare, university, cultural, and outdoor communities.
Travel RN Job Details
- Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry
- Location: Madison, Wisconsin
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: November 9, 2026
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Shifts per Week: 3
- Schedule: Every third weekend rotation and holidays required
- Unit: 27-bed inpatient orthopedic and medical-surgical telemetry unit
- Patient Population: Adults, primarily orthopedic trauma patients, with occasional neurosurgery overflow
- Typical Assignment: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling; floating may be required based on unit needs
Travel Registered Nurse Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent acute-care inpatient Registered Nurse experience in Med/Surg Telemetry within the last 3 years
- Current Registered Nurse license valid for Wisconsin practice
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Recent Epic electronic medical record experience required
- Strong telemetry knowledge and the ability to interpret cardiac rhythms
- Successful completion of a telemetry examination before the start of the assignment
- Experience with orthopedic trauma patients required; Trauma Level II experience required and Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Must be willing to float as needed
- Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from the assignment location
Med/Surg Telemetry RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult orthopedic trauma and medical-surgical telemetry patients
- Systematically assess patients, identify changes in condition, and implement evidence-based interventions
- Monitor telemetry and recognize dysrhythmias, including clinically significant and life-threatening rhythms
- Manage patients receiving heparin and insulin infusions, PCA therapy, epidurals, and peripheral nerve catheters
- Provide care for central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, surgical drains, feeding tubes, tracheostomies, and wound vacs
- Administer blood products, medications, oxygen therapy, and IV therapies safely and accurately
- Support patients with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, CVA, and post-neurosurgical needs
- Collaborate with physicians, therapy services, respiratory services, IV teams, phlebotomy, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
- Document patient care accurately in Epic and communicate effectively with patients and families
- Respond promptly to changes in patient status and participate in rapid response or code team procedures when needed
