Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license

Details

• 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity
• High-acuity, fast-paced neonatal environment within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
• Patient population includes complex respiratory, cardiac, neurological, GI/GU, and musculoskeletal conditions such as RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD, congenital heart defects, PPHN, HIE, NEC, NAS, sepsis, and TORCH infections
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
• Specialized procedures and equipment include ventilator and trach management, ECMO (baby side), CRRT, EVDs, Camino ICP/temp monitoring, ART lines, CVP, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, HOFV management, and vasoactive drip titration
• EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
• 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays, plus every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) within each 6-week scheduling cycle
• Floating may be required to the Neonatal PCU or General Peds, including Pediatric CVICU, PICU, and general Peds unit as a helping hand (or in a clinical capacity if experience applies)
• No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize them, they may be floated to similar units as described above

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Comfort and proficiency in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
• Experience with critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines, CVP), and aseptic/sterile technique
• Experience with ventilator and trach management, oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation and analgesic drips, and Foley insertion and management
• Baby-side ECMO, CRRT, EVD, and Camino ICP monitoring experience preferred (manager has shown flexibility on these specific skills)
• 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
• Travelers who have previously worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
• First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval depending on current staffing
• RTO requests require manager approval; travelers with significant RTO needs may be required to extend their contract to accommodate
• Holidays are worked as scheduled; the unit requires coverage on the day of, and the day before and/or after each holiday, on an every-other-holiday basis throughout the contract
• 2-day departmental orientation is provided
• The unit is supported 24/7 by charge nurses, IV/VAT/PCVC team, RT, intensivists, and centralized/bedside telemetry monitoring, with in-house residents and APPs
• Scrubs must be solid navy; long-sleeve undershirts must be solid navy or white only; no tight scrubs, no other organization-branded attire, and pediatric-friendly scrub tops are encouraged
• "Bare Below Elbow" policy is enforced in the nursery — no watches, jewelry (permanent or plastic), or artificial nails are permitted
