Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license

Details

• 53-bed NICU unit with an average census of 58 patients, plus overflow capacity, within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
• High-acuity neonatal patient population with diagnoses including Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Meconium Aspiration, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, Congenital Heart Defects (TOF, VSD, HLHS), PDA, PPHN, seizures, IVH, Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy, NEC, NAS, TORCH infections, and Sepsis
• Patient ratios vary based on acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
• Specialized procedures and equipment include EVDs, Camino ICP/temp monitoring, vasoactive drip titration, ART lines/CVP, ventilator and trach management, HOFV management, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, CRRT, and baby-side ECMO
• Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps used for IV medication delivery; Omnicell for medication dispensing; Philips monitors
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday/Sunday within each 6-week scheduling cycle
• No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize you, you may be floated to a similar unit
• Floating may occur to the Neonatal PCU, Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds unit as a helping hand, unless prior experience in those areas qualifies for a broader role

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS and NRP
• Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required; most recent experience must be within the last year
• Comfort working in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with critical care skills including vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, CRRT, and ECMO (baby side preferred; manager has been flexible on EVD, ICP, ECMO, and CRRT experience)
• Experience with Alaris and Medfusion pump management
• Must have permanent address 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Care responsibilities include managing critically ill neonates across respiratory, cardiac, neurological, GI/GU, and metabolic diagnoses
• Robust unit support includes a charge nurse, unit secretary, IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, and unit-based educators — all available 24/7
• Centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring available; clinical supervisors on staff (x6)
• Orientation consists of 2 days of departmental orientation (NEO program)
• Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work assigned holidays, including the day of and the eve or day after, on an every-other-holiday rotation
• RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant time-off needs may be required to extend their contract
• Scrub color: solid Navy; long-sleeve underlayer must be solid Navy or White; pediatric-friendly scrub tops preferred; no tight scrubs or other organization-branded attire
• 'Bare Below Elbow' policy in the nursery — no watches, jewelry (permanent or plastic), or artificial nails permitted
• Free parking available on site
• First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval depending on current staffing
• Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
