Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Neuro ICU or comparable critical care nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Valid compact or Ohio Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS certification through the American Heart Association
- Current NIHSS certification through the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Strong experience with ventilator management, telemetry, IV initiation, and intracranial pressure monitoring
- Ability to provide two professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Current influenza vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered
Neuro ICU RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to adults with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, seizures, neuromuscular disorders, meningitis, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries
- Care for patients recovering from craniotomies, spinal surgeries, cerebrovascular procedures, and other complex neurosurgical interventions
- Monitor and manage patients requiring external ventricular drains, intracranial pressure monitoring, EEG monitoring, and mechanical ventilation
- Assess neurological status and promptly identify changes requiring intervention
- Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, lumbar drains, ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula therapy
- Administer and titrate cardiac, vasoactive, sedation, insulin, and emergency medication infusions according to established protocols
- Interpret dysrhythmias, obtain 12-lead EKGs, administer blood products, and support procedural sedation as needed
- Perform IV starts, phlebotomy, suctioning, infection prevention, isolation precautions, and other essential critical care interventions
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Float safely to designated units of equivalent or lower acuity while maintaining high standards of patient care and documentation
