Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a comprehensive stroke center requiring 2+ years of dedicated Neuro ICU experience.

Details

• Neuro ICU setting at a comprehensive stroke center
• Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents/endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
• Nurse to patient ratio of 2:1, flexing up to 3:1 during high census, with average daily census of 11-12
• 12-hour night shifts from 18:45-07:15, 3x per week
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within or near the facility
• No on-call requirements
• Uses EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun equipment
• Charting systems include Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of dedicated Neuro ICU experience required (general ICU experience not accepted)
• Strong Neuro Critical Care background required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted
• Skills required: vent management, IV starts, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, blood product administration, central line care, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD care, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, and lumbar drain experience
• Arterial line management experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to a complex neuro patient population including stroke, SDH, and post-neurosurgical patients
• Comprehensive stroke center environment
• 24-hour unit orientation (2 days or 2 nights)
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
• Pre-start and annual online modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed via Chrome or Edge browser
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Additional RTO requests after signing are not accepted
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with prior employment disclosed for facility approval
