Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN for a comprehensive stroke center, requiring 2 years of dedicated Neuro ICU experience and prior travel assignment experience.

Details

• Neuro Intensive Care Unit in a comprehensive stroke center
• Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
• Ratios of 2:1, flexing up to 3:1 during high census
• Average daily census of 11-12 patients
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15), 3x12 schedule with option for 36 hours
• Every other weekend required
• No call requirement
• Floating required within or near the facility
• Uses EVDs, lumbar drains, Camino ICP monitoring, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun equipment
• Charting systems include EPIC and Pyxis with SBAR communication

Requirements

• Active RN license, NC or Compact (pending accepted at time of submission)
• Minimum 2 years of full-time Neuro ICU experience required; general ICU experience not accepted
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• Experience with vents, IV starts, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, blood product administration, central line care, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVDs, ICP monitoring, post neurosurgery management, and lumbar drains required
• Arterial line management experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years preferred (pending references accepted at submission)

Additional Information

• Care for a high-acuity neuro population including stroke, SDH, craniotomy, carotid procedures, aneurysm repair, seizure, and neuromuscular patients
• Unit orientation is 24 hours across 2 days or 2 nights
• Scrub colors required are navy blue and white
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment; additional RTO requires facility approval and cannot be requested after signing
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel status, not both
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units, with own transportation and disclosed at submission
• Assignments of 13 weeks or longer considered, up to a hard stop of February 27, 2027
